On saturday, the little monkey turned two! This has been a big year with so many changes. Often when are in the middle of the everyday work of mothering, we forget to pause and reflect on the growth and development of our little ones. Taking time to do that can be such a rich experience!
This past year my little guy has gone from being a barely wobbling toddler to a running, jumping, climbing kid! He has gone from a vocabulary of a few words to being able to say just about anything. Including, “Don’t kiss me mama, I am too busy working.”
He has become more relational with other kids and even has a best buddy, Charlie. While he still tends to lash out and sometimes hit or push when he feels challenged or is protecting a toy, I also see that he is thinking more about his actions and has (a little) more impulse control.
This kid loves his big brother! He talks about him almost every day calling him either “Bubba” or”Broder.” Since Sweet Boy lives in Texas, the little monkey likes to talk to him on the phone (often hanging up by accident!).
He is sleeping better (through the night, most nights)! Those of you who have read my blog over the past couple of years might remember what a challenge sleep has been for our family. For me, getting to sleep for more than two or three hours at a time has completely revitalized my body! I am healthy again and feel more human…
I look back over the past two years and feel so much gratitude for the journey. It has been harder than I imagined it would be, but also over-flowing with love and learning. I think this is the truth of motherhood: We never imagine how difficult, gut-wrenching or exhausting it will be. Nor do we really understand how magical and filled with joy it will be. How we can experience such highs and lows all in such a short amount of time (and often from one moment to the next) is baffling!
I hope that where ever you are in your mothering journey that you also pause and reflect on what a wild, amazing ride it is!

Happy Birthday!!!
